Vincent returns from Saintes Maries de la Mer on June 2 and sometime in the following week he turned his attention to the harvest he had left in its early stages in late May.  He sets out on the familiar road to Tarascon and battles wind and a Provence sun and heat like he has never felt before at midday in the plein air.  He is looking over views of the crau which Cezanne had viewed from the eastern side and is inspired to work on larger canvases so as to allow his detail to not be cramped.
