Vincent paints a street scene of a banner-filled celebratory Bastille Day in Paris in 1886. He uses reds, blues, yellows and grays to portray the flag filled street with figures at the bottom of the canvas and an oil street lamp at left center bottom.

This might have been inspired by Monet’s Bastille Day on Rue Montorgueil, created 8 years prior in 1878 (see related images)
