Description:

The related image is a pen and ink drawing Vincent created about a week after the painting.  It differs in having fewer stars and the stars are larger in the drawing.  the cottage roofs are thatched in the drawing and this imagined scene feels even more than the painting like a dutch village rather than Provence.  The steeple is similar to earlier drawings and paintings from Holland and speaks to a composite of remembered views of the alpilles, a starry night sky and a small village below it all.

“At last I have a landscape with olive trees, and also a new study of a starry sky.”
