Vincent and the impressionists frequently painted on the picturesque banks of Asnieres Sur Seine. The Isle de La Grande Jatte of Seurat and Renoir fame is nearby and one of the dozens of factories in Asnieres during Vincent’s time there was a young luggage manufacturer named Louis Vitton. A place of retreat during hot Paris summers, the restaurant de la Sirene was located on the north bank of the Seine with the town of Clichy on the southern bank. Vincent painted here in the summer of 1887 with Paul Signac and Emile Bernard.
