Blues and yellows dominate this self portrait created in the Summer of 1887.  Vincent is beginning to experiment with complimentary color combinations and the effect they have on one another depending how closely they are situated in the overall composition.  He also uses greens along the edge the straw hat brim which compliment the red of his lower lip with a pipe stem of yellow in a similar shade to the straw hat.  A color palette that did not exist for Vincent only a year ago is now the subject of his attention and studies.   Painting, Oil on Canvas Paris: Summer, 1887 Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Europe F: 179v, JH: 1300
