In this work created in the summer of 1887, Vincent brings together and side by side shades of red, orange and green with vertical strokes on the subject in the mirror and horizontal greens on a deep red creating the background. The painting is an excellent example of the influence of impressionism on Vincent’s technique and an increasing gravity toward expressing intended emotions through the blend and juxtaposition of color combinations.  The brownish red tones of the eyes are replicated in the background with the their intensity being the focal point outward from which the energy of the work emotes.   Painting, Oil on Canvas Paris: Summer, 1887 Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Europe F: 77v, JH: 1304
