Vincent’s second of three self portraits with the same grey felt hat.  This one, done in the spring of 1887 shows how far Vincents color palette has expanded in the first 12 months of his exposure to the impressionists.  He has attended the Cormon school for a few months and left the formal program by this time, though he still goes by the studio from time to time to work on studies of plaster statues and live models if they are available.
