For the Summer of 1917, the course decided to open up play to friends recommended by members until November of that year. The fee for a guest was 50 cents and this policy was put into effect due to a worsening financial condition of the club as World War One is raging in Europe and America is beginning to participate. In the coming months, many of Altadena Country Clubs founders and members would serve the war effort in some capacity and the finances of the club were really feeling the pinch at this time.
